Facilities at QAU


Central Library:
Central Library building has four floors and a basement with an area of over 102,500 sq. ft and a shelving capacity for 500,000 volumes of books/journals. The library has a collection of more than 1,51,000 books, 25,000 bound journals and key reference sources in natural and social sciences. It subscribes to about 300 international journals in various disciplines of natural and social sciences. Library services/facilities are offered through reference, circulation, acquisition, periodical sections and reading rooms. Selected textbooks are provided to students through a book bank on nominal charges.
The University has started to automate its library operations in four phases in order to offer fast and accurate services. In phase-I, cataloguing has been completed and is operational. The library is also acquiring a computer system which will be linked with the UGC computers to receive relevant information from abroad. Because of its excellent collection of books and leading journals, the library is one of the best library in Pakistan and the Government of Pakistan has declared it as the National library of Science and Technology. A plan is under preparation to achieve that status and to offer services to the scientist and scientific institutions throughout the country.
The University Bookshop imports books directly from the publishers abroad on concessional rates, on the demand of teaching department and the central Library. The scientific and research work of faculty members and other eminent scholars, including books, monographs, newsletters, journals of Natural and Social Sciences, published by the Publication Cell, are also available for sale with this section along with admission forms.

Sports:
The University provides facilities to the students for outdoor and indoor games under the supervision of the Sports Committee which also arranges interdepartmental tournaments and friendly matches with other universities and colleges. At present, facilities are available for table tennis, basketball, football, badminton and athletics. Students participate in these games with keen interest. Competitions of the following sports are held between different departments of the University between September and November every year..

Health Care:
A Health Care with a resident Senior Medical Officer, a lady Medical Officer and a full-time medical unit provides medical care on campus during working hours. Its para medical staff attends to sick students round the clock, and emergency cases are sent for treatment to Federal Government Services Hospital and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.

Cafeteria and Shops:

A Cafeteria, located near the administration block and the bus park, provides meals, tea and cold drinks. Some of the department have their own tea shops which provides snacks during working hours. A Utility Store is located on the campus where groceries and essential items of stationery are available. A number of private shops provide refreshment and food at reasonable rates.

Transport:

The University has its own fleet of buses and other transport vehicles. The buses ply between the campus and major locations in Rawalpindi and Islamabad to provide transportation to students and staff on confessional rates. A shuttle service runs between campus and Aabpara at regular intervals. Private wagons also ply frequently between the Campus and Aabpara.
